The nuggets of our wine merchants for the holidays

The festive meals are approaching and you are wondering how to choose the right wine to accompany scallops, capon and other festive dishes. As our local wine merchants at Yabe are very good at advising you, here is a selection of wines to get for Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Some golden rules

White and sparkling wines

🦪 With your oysters and iodine flavours, prefer a fresh, slightly acidic white wine: a brut Champagne, a slightly fruity Sylvaner, or an Entre-deux-mers.

A delicate Chablis or Hermitage will please your palate if you serve it with your scallops, lobsters, crabs or other shellfish.

For your smoked salmon, choose a dry wine such as Muscadet, Sancerre or Quincy. If you are serving foie gras (duck or goose), choose a sweet, syrupy wine such as Sauternes, Monbazillac, Jurançon or Coteaux du Layon.

If you are a truffle lover, we advise you to accompany it with a yellow wine from the Jura or a wine from Arbois.

Finally, for your cheese platter, if it is made up of blue-veined cheeses (Bleu d'Auvergne, Fourme d'Ambert, Roquefort, etc.), serve it with a wine that prepares it for dessert: late harvest, Val de Loire, or Quarts-de-chaume for example.

If your palate likes bubbles, you can serve a rosé champagne with your fruity desserts.

Red wines

The meat served at Christmas is a good excuse to bring out your great Burgundies and Bordeaux vintages.

With turkey or capon, serve a complex and balanced wine such as a Pomerol, a Châteauneuf-du-Pape or a Saint-Emilion. If you prefer game (deer, wild boar, roe deer, etc.), opt for a Languedoc wine (Minervois, Corbières, Saint-Chinian), which is fruitier but no less intense.

Finally, for dessert, chocolate pastries go wonderfully well with Port, Banyuls or Maury.

Our favourite wine shops

For you, we have found the wine merchants who know their wines inside out and who are passionate about the history of the vineyards. In fact, they are the ones who gave us all these recommendations. If you would like to meet them, you can do so below:

In Luxembourg, you will find all our recommendations at Vinoteca, Vinissimo, Maxi Vins or the Vinothèque Le Chai. If you prefer to drink local white and sparkling wines, visit Domaines VinsMoselle.

In Nancy, our good addresses are: the Cave de Léon, the Cellier des Gourmets, the Cercle des Domaines, or Le Petit Français (there is also a shop in Metz).

If you live in Thionville or its suburbs, go and visit L'Entrepôt Du Vin, L'Amphore, Les Domaines Qui Montent or Caves Bousquet.

La Cour des Cols, Chemin Sous Les Vignes, Boire et Manger, Cave du Val D'Or, these are our favourite wine shops in Metz.

For the people of Rennes, you will find what you are looking for at the Cave Vasselot, the Casier A Bouteilles, the Cave du Sommelier or the Pif en L'Air.

Christmas is just a week away, order your festive wines from your local wine shops thanks to Yabe !
